As relentless networkers themselves, Kymberlee Weil and Mark Sylvester appropriately met at a business networking event in 2002. Together, they hatched an idea that would later become recognized as a major breakthrough in social networking.
Shortly thereafter, Mark learned from a colleague at Macromedia that the company was slated to sponsor the world-renowned, invitation-only Technology, Entertainment, and Design (TED) Conference. But because of their sponsorship role, the company would not be able to self-promote at the conference - so Kymberlee and Mark proposed that Macromedia create an immersive social networking experience for the attendees.
In just eight weeks - and with the help of TED Curator Chris Anderson, Macromedia heavyweights, and some very talented developers and designers - Mark and Kymberlee created an ambitious and unprecedented networking system that would allow over 1,000 attendees to build personal profiles and interact with one another. After just four days, 78 percent of the people had tried the system at least once and more than 3,000 messages had been sent between attendees. A resounding success, the story was covered both by Forbes.com and NYTimes.com.
Since then, Mark and Kymberlee formed introNetworks, Inc. to continue innovating around the base technology created for TED. They have rolled out a completely new version of the platform each year, always working closely with Chris to implement his ideas for improving the networking experience. With an amazing team of brilliant rock stars, introNetworks has only begun to scratch the surface of endless possibilities.
